April 1, 2005—Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. and its parent, Toshiba Corp., have introduced a new generation of white light emitting diodes (LEDs) with the industry’s highest level of luminous flux, the company says. The LEDs can be used for lighting the home or office, for decorative interior lighting in stores and for LCD backlighting, according to Toshiba.
Toshiba’s white LED, TL10W02-D, realizes a luminous flux of 60 lumens at 500mA (2 watts). The luminous flux of white LEDs gives it a longer operating life and lower power consumption, ideal characteristics for future lighting solution alternatives to incandescent and fluorescent lamps, notes the company.
