Turner Corporation forecasts increase in construction costs for third quarter 2001

September 24, 2001—The Turner Corporation, the nation’s leading general builder, has projected that construction costs in the third quarter of 2001 will increase 0.33 percent from the second quarter of 2001.

According to Turner: “Regionally, some markets are responding to the slowing economy with costs level to the last quarter. The construction markets in major metropolitan areas, however, continue to be strong.”

Turner has made its quarterly forecast—the Turner Building Cost Index—for more than 50 years. The index is determined by several factors considered on a nationwide basis—labor rates and productivity, material prices, and the competitive condition of the marketplace.
