Two French industrial companies form joint FM venture

Two of France’s leading industrial companies have formed a joint facilities management company to join the rapidly growing FM market in Europe and especially in France. The FM activities of the Thomson Gestion Immobilire division of the electronics group Thomson-CSF will complement those of the Alstom Contracting (formerly Cegelec) division of Alstom, a global specialist in power and transport infrastructures. The two companies have 800 staff working at 75 office and industrial sites encompassing 2.1 million sq.m. The new venture, to be called Faceo, will have a combined turnover of Eur163 million (98 million).

According to Faceo, the total European FM market is 110 million sq.m., worth Eur8.5 billion (5 billion). The company says 31% of this demand is handled in-house, 63% is subcontracted to single service providers, and just 6% of the market is outsourced to FM providers. Faceo predicts growth of 20% to 30% per year in France. The joint venture plans rapid expansion into Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands. A UK company also features on their organogram.
