June 3, 2002—The American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc. (AISC) has published two new design guides. One features a reference for historic shapes and specifications and the other covers the design of flush and extended multiple row moment end-plate connections.
Steel Design Guide Series 15: AISC Rehabilitation and Retrofit Guide: A Reference for Historic Shapes and Specifications discusses how reference data for wrought iron and steel shapes that have been discontinued beginning with shapes produced in 1873. It provides a historical view of the ASTM material standards beginning in 1900 and of AISC Specifications from 1923 forward. It also describes how existing structural systems can be enhanced for increased strength and stiffness.
Steel Design Guide Series 16: Flush and Extended Multiple-Row Moment End-Plate Connections includes a review of the uses and classifications of moment end-plate connections, general end-plate connection design procedures, and specific procedures for flush end-plate design, extended end-plate design, and gable frame panel zone design.
