Tycos AMPTRAC connectivity management system minimizes network downtime

May 10, 2002—Tyco Electronics has introduced AMPTRAC, a software-ready intelligent structured connectivity management system for automating the management of the physical layer. The system consists of the company’s AMP NETCONNECT premises cabling combined with patch panels, patch cords, sensors, analyzers, and all the accessories needed to deploy real-time network monitoring software from iTRACS Corporation. Category 5E, Category 6, and MT-RJ optical fiber solutions will be available for both new and existing networks.

When deployed with iTRACS software, Tyco says that the AMPTRAC connectivity management system will provide an automated cabling management system that minimizes network downtime, reduces IT staff workload, and streamlines moves, adds, and changes (MACs). The iTRACS software automatically generates up-to-date network topology documentation to aid change control, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery efforts; instantly pinpoints wiring trouble spots; sends alerts when a problem is discovered; and issues work orders or trouble tickets to initiate corrective action in order to quickly restore service to end users.

The AMPTRAC system will come with a 25-year warranty on new builds. It can also be retrofitted to add intelligent cabling management capabilities to existing AMP NETCONNECT installations. For more information, call Tyco Electronics customer service at 800/553-0938 or visit AMP NETCONNECT.
