Tyco launches video networking system for security; videoconferencing

February 11, 2002—Tyco Electronics has launched its new Video Networking System, which will be deployed through its turnkey installation services unit, OneSource Building Technologies.

The system is designed to satisfy increasing demand for a wide variety of video applications including videoconferencing, local broadcasting, in-house training and security. Unlike other video systems that require expensive coaxial cable and overload IP networks with multicast programming, the Video Networking System is an RF (radio frequency)-based video distribution system. As a result, the system delivers flicker-free, full-motion analog and digital video over Category 5 unshielded twisted pair cable without interfering with, or adding additional load levels to existing LAN traffic.

The Video Networking System is capable of delivering up to 180 channels of full-motion video to any PC or monitor while supporting optional two-way video and audio, and can scale to support user populations ranging from 16 to 6,400. One or two broadband RF inputs can be accommodated without requiring a head-end to simplify the addition of new video sources to existing cable TV feeds, while eliminating many common interference-related problems.
