U.K. parking garage company NCP adding pleasant smells

March 30, 2009 NCP, a parking garage company based in the U.K., found that as many as one third of potential customers were being put off using their car parks because of the bad smells.

A survey of 2,000 people found two in three said stairwells were the worst-smelling part of car parks, with many saying the areas smelled of urine and vomit. As a result of the survey, NCP is now planning to pump pleasant smells through the stairwells of car parks in London, Birmingham, and Cardiff, and then take the technology nationwide if people like it.

“We’ve recently invested in some innovative technology that will allow us to make our stairwells smell however we want them to: roses, a bakery, roast chicken. You name it we can make a smell of it!” says the company.

The company is urging people to visit its Web site and vote for the smell they’d most like to experience. Choices include fresh linen, oranges and gingerbread.
