May 22, 2002—Select Energy, the energy marketing and services arm of Northeast Utilities has been chosen by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to provide over 10 megawatts of electricity per year for various facilities throughout the state of New York. Among the sites being served are the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Department of Justice, and GSA facilities. The three-year contract runs through May 2005.
According to Annette Durnack, vice president of Select Energy’s New York operations, Select Energy won the GSA contract through an innovative, Web-based reverse auction process developed by World Energy Solutions Inc. of Worcester, Mass.
The U.S. General Services Administration is an independent agency of the executive branch with 14,000 workers and an annual budget of $64 billion. Select Energy provides electricity, natural gas and integrated energy solutions to business and institutional customers in 11 states.
