July 31, 2006—Clif Bar & Co. and Another Planet Entertainment have partnered to make the entire 2006 concert season of the Greek Theatre at UC-Berkeley climate-neutral, marking the first time a major music venue has made a season-long commitment to offset its impact on global warming, according to a report in GreenBiz.com.
Clif Bar will also sponsor a new organic food cafe, recycling stations, the use of recycled paper for all printed materials, and a way for theater-goers to offset their impact on global warming. In addition, Clif Bar will provide biodegradable utensils, cups, and plates for the musicians’ backstage meals and snacks.
In partnership with NativeEnergy, Clif Bar is purchasing enough renewable energy credits or “green tags” to help build new wind turbines to offset all of the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced during the June-October concert season. The carbon emissions from the 8,500-seat theater result from the electricity used to power and light the venue.
