November 14, 2008—The University of Georgia (UGA) and the University of Michigan have become the only two universities in the country to earn ISSA’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) Certification with Honors.
CIMS applies to the management, operations, and performance systems of cleaning organizations. Compliance with the Standard demonstrates that a cleaning operation is structured to deliver consistent, quality services designed to meet customers’ needs and expectations.
UGA received the award for the Physical Plant Building Services Department’s work in the 28 buildings on North Campus, which comprise UGA’s new “green corridor.” The Department plans to expand its green program across the entire campus.
The UGA Physical Plant Division was also recently chosen to receive an honorable mention in the universities category of the 2008 Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities, thanks in large part to its CIMS certification efforts. Only four universities across the country received the award, which is sponsored by American School and University magazine, the Green Cleaning Network, and the Healthy Schools Campaign.
