March 1, 2002—Following a recent meeting, the UKs Council of the Architecture and Surveying Institute (ASI) agreed to progress negotiations that could lead to a merger with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
President of the ASI, Peter Matthews, said: “This brings together all aspects of the built environment from conception to design, construction, facilities and property management. It will create much needed synergy with the various levels and disciplines within the industry and professions.”
The Council of the CIOB will discuss a report on the negotiations at the end of March. Final agreement is subject to acceptance by both memberships and their Councils later in the year.
Bob Heathfield, president of the CIOB, commented: “This is a very positive step with obvious benefits for members of both Institutes, and is in tune with the needs of the industry.”
