June 20, 2003—Brewer Scottish & Newcastle Retail Ltd has just purchased 1.3kWh of green electricity from npower for its head offices in Northampton.
S&N Retail holds the Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice in the Leisure & Service industries and had done so for the last three years. The company is hoping to build upon its environmental commitments by buying electricity generated from renewable sources such as wind farms and hydro stations.
Npower says that by offering companies like S&N Retail the opportunity to buy green electricity, it is helping its customers to combat the impact of climate change and the drain of depleting supplies of fossil fuels.
Joe Douglas, strategic marketing manager commented: “The new contract with S&N Retail is a further step towards achieving the governments ambitious target to meet 10.4% of UK electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2010.”
