April 22, 2002—The UKs Health and Safety Commission (HSC) has recently published a guide to Britain’s health and safety system, explaining how it works, the role of the principal institutions, the legal framework, the policy process, enforcement issues, and control of risk at the workplace.
Commenting on the publication, Tony Lord, head of the Health and Safety Executive’s International Branch said:
“We are keen to share information on our system and good practice with our counterparts in other countries. This guide is designed to ensure that there is a clear understanding of our health and safety system and how it functions. This is important if we are to continue to be effective, in the EU and beyond, in influencing and negotiating with other countries in the development of international standards and strategies for improving health and safety.” Copies of ‘The health and safety system in Great Britain’, ISBN 0 7176 2243 6, price 8.50, can be ordered online or are available from HSE Books, PO Box 1999, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 2WA, tel: 01787-881165.
