UK government to update fire safety aspects of building regulations

October 17, 2005—The UK Government has started its consultation process on proposals to amend the fire safety aspects of the Building Regulations for England and Wales

According to the Web site of the Health and Safety Executive, the aim is to consolidate existing legislation and provide a risk-based approach to fire safety. The new legislation is called the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and it is due to come into force in April 2006.

According to HSE, the new legislation will create one simple fire safety regime applying to all workplaces and other non-domestic premises. For more information, visit the HSE Web site.
