UK HSE publishes new safety training program for construction workers

November 7, 2003—The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published “Passport schemes for health safety and the environment,” a free leaflet about good practice. Safety “passports” are developed and used in various industries, notably construction, to help workers gain minimum levels of health and safety knowledge and to ensure that they are aware of their environmental responsibilities before being allowed access to a workplace. Workers receive passports by attending training courses designed to raise awareness of the risks associated within the trainee’s working environment.

The new leaflet, which includes a suggested core syllabus, is intended for those who run or who are considering setting up a passport program. Information contained in the leaflet would also be of interest to those looking to obtain a passport.

Free copies of “Passport schemes for health safety and the environment: a good practice guide” INDG381 are available from HSE Books, PO Box 1999, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 2WA, tel: 01787-881165 or fax: 01787-313995. It can also be downloaded from HSE / Publications (.pdf file).
