UK HVAC, electrical contractors partner for health & safety

October 19, 2005—The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) and the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) recently committed to maximizing their joint work on health and safety in the UK. One joint venture already under development is the staging of a major national conference on health and safety, to take place during 2006.

In particular, the associations agreed to work closely on:

  • collecting accident statistics in order to identify national trends;
  • providing technical support for assessment in connection with the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme and Engineering Services SKILLcard;
  • producing written representations on key issues to the Health and Safety Executive and other bodies; and
  • developing assessment schemes for member companies.

HVCA director Robert Higgs said that the joint commitment underlined the increasing priority being given to health and safety throughout the British construction industry. “We owe it to everyone engaged in the construction process to minimize on-site deaths and injuries, and to ensure the well-being of the workforce as a whole.”
