November 28, 2005—A training organization for the British private security sector has been launched to serve future needs in the areas of skills development and training investment.
The new body, “Skills for Security,” will incorporate Security Industry Training Organisation (SITO), newly divested from the British Security Industry Association (BSIA). It will become fully operational January 1, 2006.
Numerous organizations were involved in the research and consultation leading to the formation of Skills for Security: the Security Industry Authority (SIA), BSIA, Joint Security Industry Council, The Security Institute, ASIS UK Chapter, the Sector Skills Development Agency, the UK regulatory authorities for qualifications, awarding bodies, and a number of major employers and stakeholders in the sector. The board of the new body will reflect this wide-ranging, industry-led approach.
