March 6, 2002—The Facilities Management Graduate Centre at the UKs Sheffield Hallam University is to enroll a third group of students in May, such is the demand for its undergraduate Certificate in Facilities Management.
Launched a year ago, the course is aimed at those working in FM roles that wish to improve their knowledge, skills and performance. Learning and assessment take place within the workplace with the program adapted to the needs of the individual or organization.
“The program encourages students to see their workplace as a resource for learning and development,” said course leader Phil Askham, “We place great emphasis on student support and devote time to the development of study skills. An additional benefit is that the diversity of students coming together for the workshops provides an ideal forum to share and compare best practice.”
The first 22 students, now mid-way through the course, are mostly from NHS Trusts and Consignia plus two from the Health & Safety Executive. Students in the second group come from a wide range of organizations, including FM service providers, educational institutions and NHS Trusts.
