UK’s Carpet Foundation gets Office of Fair Trading approval

January 3, 2007—The Carpet Foundation (CF) has secured Office of Fair Trading (OFT) approval for its code of practice under the OFT’s Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS). The OFT only approves codes that have proved effective in safeguarding and promoting consumers’ interests beyond the basic requirements of the law.

The CF is a trade association for carpet manufacturers and retailers and currently has 1,090 independent retailers known as ‘Registered Specialists’ whose sales make up over half of the independent sector; a further 11 carpet manufacturers are also members.

Consumers will be able to look for the Carpet Foundation/OFT Approved code logo when purchasing a new carpet in order to gain the benefits of the approved code.

These include a two year guarantee against manufacturing faults for Carpet Foundation manufactured carpets; a one year guarantee against installation faults where the Registered Specialist is responsible for the installation; and impartial pre-contractual information for customers including objective advice on a wide range of issues affecting performance, suitability, selection and installation of carpets.
