February 9, 2005—The United Kingdoms Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is offering a new Web-based tool to assist small and medium-sized businesses track and assess how they are managing their own health and safety performance supported by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Small Business Service.
The Health and Safety Performance Indicator was developed to help these companies assess theirhealth and safety performance at regular intervals, such as from one year to the next. Companies can also benchmark their performance against other small business, and can tell their insurers how well they are managing health and safety.
HSE is also developing a Corporate Health and Safety Performance Indicator (CHaSPI) to help large organizations measure how effectively they are managing risks to health and safety, and to put that information in a form that can inform key external stakeholders, including investors, insurers, trade unions and their members, and the public. CHaSPI will be developed as an electronic tool and will be accessible via the Web from May 2005.
