January 14, 2005—As stated in Vikings press release on December 17, 2004, Factory Mutual has suspended its approval of all manufacturers Large Drop fire sprinklers. In accordance with this action by FM, all manufacturers, including Viking, immediately ceased production of Large Drop sprinklers bearing FMs mark of approval.
As a result of FMs directive, Underwriters Laboratories recently conducted its own full-scale fire testing of Large Drop sprinklers. These tests successfully demonstrated that the performance of Vikings Large Drop sprinklers (SIN# VK540) is consistent with current UL listing criteria for these products. As such, Viking will continue to manufacture and distribute UL-listed Large Drop fire sprinklers.
Factory Mutuals analysis of all manufacturers Large Drop sprinkler technology is ongoing. Additional approval information will be communicated after FM has completed its full analysis.
