January 23, 2008—Unelko Corporation, manufacturer of cleaning products, says it may have the answer to the rampant spread of the potentially life-threatening MRSA, the antibiotic-resistant staph infection that has been plaguing hospitals, nursing homes, health clubs, schools and homes for years.
The company says its Sani-Shield and Clean & Shield products are proven to clean surfaces of everyday soil and germs while simultaneously shielding the cleaned surfaces with a newly patented invisible antimicrobial barrier technology on which bacteria, viruses, mold and mildew will not grow for at least seven days between cleanings.
Independent laboratory tests of the effects of these products on MRSA were recently completed by the University of Arizona, under the auspices of internationally renowned microbiologist Dr. Charles Gerba. These tests confirmed that the use of Sani-Shield or Clean & Shield instantly killed more than 99.9% of MRSA, as well as e-coli, salmonella, noroviruses and the AD14 common cold virus, on surfaces and that the antimicrobial barrier continued to kill the bacteria within hours of being re-deposited.
Most cleaners kill germs one time without any ongoing protection against recontamination. According to Unelko, Sani-Shield and Clean & Shield are the first and only surface care products proven to protect surfaces with an invisible antimicrobial barrier on which bacteria, mold and mildew will not grow.
