Universities that Count program from EAUC provides environmental benchmarks

November 26, 2008—Universities that Count, a new program designed to benchmark UK universities on their environmental and corporate responsibility has been launched by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC).

Universities that Count (UTC) is the first independent, quality assured corporate responsibility benchmarking initiative, designed specifically for higher education institutions, according to EAUC. In its first year, 64 higher education institutions from throughout the UK will participate in the scheme, following a successful pilot project in 2007 with 25 universities.

Universities that Count is a partnership between the UK HE Funding Councils, the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), Business in the Community, and CSR Consultancy. It is based on the Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index.

There are two aspects to the scheme, the Corporate Responsibility Index and the Environmental Index. By completing the CR Index, participating organizations will receive two sets of feedback, one on their environmental and another on their corporate responsibility performance. The results of the scheme will be published in July 2009.
