February 26, 2003—Investing in occupational safety education to reduce workplace injuries and the positive effects integrating safety systems into all elements of business operations has on the bottom line, the Georgia-based United Parcel Service (UPS) Foundation recently donated $35,000 to the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF) for occupational safety and health scholarships.
The UPS Foundation’s donation will provide up to six scholarships of $5,250 each for their traditional undergraduate program for juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health, and for the UPS Diversity Scholarship Program for minority students in the field of occupational safety and health. The UPS gift to the ASSEF reflects a 40 percent increase over last year.
