June 17, 2002—Tuff-Hide, new high-build spray from United States Gypsum Co., provides smooth, high-quality, finished gypsum panel walls and ceilings. U.S. Gypsum points out that in just a single application, Tuff-Hide generates the same results produced by using a typical two-step process of skim coating the entire drywall surface with joint compound followed by the application of a coat of drywall primer.
The high solids, latex-based material provides a consistent, highly durable base for paint finishes. By hiding minor surface defects and minimizing decorating problems, such as joint banding, it ensures a more beautiful paint finish over drywall than can be achieved by simply using a drywall primer. The spray-applied Tuff-Hide can be used in critical light areas, or in lieu of the skim coat and priming steps required to achieve a Level 5 Gypsum Board Finish, the highest-quality gypsum board finish as designated by the Gypsum Association. When used on ceilings, Tuff-Hide may be left unpainted for a flat, white finish. For more information, contact United States Gypsum Co.
