US Postal Service selects Safety-Kleen for waste management services

October 26, 2005—Safety-Kleen Systems, Inc., has been awarded a multi-year exclusive contract by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to provide hazardous and regulated waste management solutions, the company announced.

Under this national agreement, the first of its kind, according to Safety-Kleen, the company will be the sole authorized national company providing the following services:

  • Oil collection and re-refining for more than 1.5 million gallons of motor oil;
  • Parts cleaning and solvent disposal services;
  • Containerized waste management, including oil filter recycling and disposal of absorbent materials; and,
  • Vacuum services for separators, drains and trenches.

Safety-Kleen will service approximately 750 postal facilities that generate hazardous and other regulated wastes. These locations support more than 37,000 individual offices across the United States. The USPostal Service is the third-largest employer in the US (after the Defense Department and Wal-Mart) and operates the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world. More than 200,000 postal trucks and vans travel one billion miles annually.
