March 19, 200—Global Green USA recognized the US Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System among this year’s honorees at the New York Gala Awards dinner. Five awards were presented in recognition of building, product, industrial, media, and policy design efforts that promote Global Green’s vision of a secure and sustainable future.
The Building Design Award was presented to the USGBC for creating a rating and certification system that is the benchmark for “green” building in the United States. The LEED Rating System promotes a holistic approach to building design, construction, and operations that help reduce environmental impacts and maximize performance in five categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy & atmosphere, materials & resources, and indoor environmental quality.
Over 600 projects worldwide representing nearly 100 million square feet of commercial, institutional, and high-rise residential building space are currently working toward LEED Certification. In addition, thousands of building industry professionals have attended LEED training programs and sought LEED Professional Accreditation in response to the growing demand for sustainable building expertise in the marketplace.
