January 5, 2005—Xybernaut Corporation has announced an add-on contract valued at approximately $100,000 from a Virginia county for continued use of a Xybernaut service-based software solution developed to help the parks and recreation department manage athletic facility use scheduling and maintenance. Xybernaut, a global provider of wearable/mobile computing hardware, software, and services, commented that the add-on contract is an affirmation of the company’s commitment to total customer satisfaction.
In this Virginia locale, a custom version of the Xybernaut Scheduling System (XSS) was developed to replace a 12-year-old legacy system with the objective of creating an enterprise-wide Web-enabled system. The XSS was tailored to solve many critical facility-scheduling issues including: coordination between facility users and governmental staff; fees accounting; maintenance monitoring; and related administrative functions.
The XSS employs a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) and Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) with an Oracle 8i database. The front end was developed using Microsoft Visual Interdev to create ASP pages. Visual Basic based COM objects reside on MTS. Reporting is accomplished using Crystal Reports Version 8.5. ESRI MapObjects is also used to provide geographic search and display engine of available facilities.
At the time the Xybernaut XSS project began, the Virginia county was processing over 6,600 requests annually for community use of athletic facilities, scheduling over 870 ball fields and 227 gymnasiums. Although the Xybernaut XSS solution covers numerous facilities management tasks, each facility scheduling solution is built to order or customized based on specific needs of the customer.
