August 20, 2001—Verilux, “The Healthy Lighting Company,” has introduced Planet Light Healthy Light bulbs, which Verilux says emit pure white light like the sun for healthy eyes and brighter environments. According to Verilux, Planet Light recreates the power of natural sunlight indoors without the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Planet Light healthy light bulbs are made with neodymium, a natural earth element that gives the bulb a pleasing purple color and filters the glaring, yellow light found in ordinary light bulbs. This reveals truer colors and provides sharper contrast while reducing glare, eyestrain, and fatigue. The neodymium bulbs are also reported to last twice as long as ordinary bulbs.
Planet Light will initially be available at mass merchandisers in the US and Canada this fall in a variety of watts and styles including standard incandescents, flood lights, globes, and an energy efficient compact fluorescent spiral.
