August 16, 2006—VFA, Inc., has completed assessments of facilities used by the State of Idaho Department of Correction (DOC), documenting current condition and identifying deferred maintenance requirements.
VFA, a leading provider of software and services for facilities capital planning and asset management and capital planning, completed the assessments as part of a contract that also includes the implementation of VFA.facility software for ongoing management of facility data and evaluation of capital needs.
VFA assessed more than 160 buildings in Idaho totaling nearly 2 million square feet of facilities managed by the Dept of Correction. The comprehensive condition audit is part of a State of Idaho strategic planning directive to evaluate the current condition of correctional facilities, determine the functional adequacy of those facilities to meet State needs, and identify and prioritize deferred maintenance and capital renewal requirements to support the functional operations of the facilities.
VFA.facility software will provide a central database of facility asset information to support the ongoing management of plant assets and the development of long-term capital plans for State correctional facilities.
“With the detailed information about facilities and related systems that the VFA assessments have provided, coupled with the decision support tools in VFA.facility, the State of Idaho will have a solid foundation for making optimal decisions about deferred maintenance and capital renewal investments across the State correctional system,” says Pat Donaldson, Facility Services Manager, State of Idaho Dept. of Correction.
Idaho is the fourth state to engage Boston-based VFA for assessment of correctional department facilities, following Louisiana, Missouri, and Virginia. To date, VFA has assessed more than 3,600 buildings and nearly 26 million square feet for state correctional departments.
