June 9, 2004—VFA, provider of software and services for facilities management and capital planning, is the recipient of the Light House Shelter’s inaugural Corporate Appreciation Award. VFA received the award as recognition for its donation of software and services to the Annapolis, Maryland-based shelter, which offers emergency housing for homeless men, women, and children. The 100-year old building converted into a shelter in 1988 is the only emergency shelter in the city of Annapolis and the only one in Anne Arundel County providing services for single adult men and women.
“With a 100-year old facility, it is a constant battle to keep up with maintenance and repairs. The fact that we have to rely on donations or grants to perform the repairs makes things even more challenging,” said Ed Ponatoski, vice president for Annapolis Area Ministries, the governing board for the Light House Shelter.
“Using VFA’s capital asset planning and management solution, we performed a full-scale condition assessment of the shelter and devised a maintenance and repair plan. We were able to quantitatively measure the facility’s technical health, analyze the impact of facility investments and the possible implications of inadequate maintenance. The software’s reporting capabilities allow us to create annual and long-range budgets, and justify government and charitable grant funding requests.”
