January 21, 2005—VFA, Inc., a provider of software and services for facilities management and capital planning, has signed a visionary agreement with the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC). This is the latest in a string of partnerships that have built upon VFAs relationship with the NJ Department of Education, which began in 2000 with the deployment of a tailored Web-based, long-range facility planning application.
Under the new agreement, VFA will deliver to the SCC a Web-based, customized document management system that integrates VFA.facility, VFAs flagship software, and Documentum, a document management and workflow system from EMC Corporation that will be supplied by Entology, Inc.
Working with VFAs software, the states school districts will be able to develop five-year capital plans for facility care, maintenance and re-investment. In addition, the districts can use the integrated system to combine facilities condition and capital planning data with the SCCs existing database for more efficient tracking of projects. As a result, the SCC will be able to track projects more efficiently as they proceed from initial proposals through construction.
SCC plans to implement VFAs customized solution statewide as the primary channel for accessing and updating all facilities and capital planning data. As a result, the 600-plus school districts across the state will gain a better understanding of the status of building repair and renewal projects in the DOEs approval process. The system will also provide districts with the decision support and analysis tools required to project student enrollment and evaluate existing capacity, allowing districts to explore various options for building use and operation.
