A vote on integration of NACORE and IDRC, originally scheduled for November 2000, has been deferred to the first quarter of 2001 by the boards of both organizations. While both IDRC and NACORE “continue to be committed to the integration process and are excited about the possibilities that a combined organization presents to their memberships, we have concluded that the original voting schedule was a part of an ambitious timeline that required some alteration,” according to a statement issued jointly by the organizations.
Deferring the vote helps ensure that more detail will be available to the memberships prior to their vote and that all opportunities and procedures will have been explored by the boards of NACORE and IDRC. Some of the areas that require additional time to complete include chapter/regional interface, global structure, contractual obligations, Institute/Foundation integration, and the development of bylaws, the statement added.
It has been agreed that conferences planned by both associations for 2001 be carried out as originally planned. The event in Seattle during May 2001 will be an IDRC World Congress; NACORE will hold its Symposium in Nashville in September. Since IDRC normally has its Tech Fair exhibits at the fall congress, there will be no exhibits at the Seattle World Congress in the spring; and it is planned that the Tech Fair will take place at the Dallas World Congress. Likewise, NACORE will hold its exhibits during the Nashville Symposium in the fall.
