VYCON’S flywheel UPS system helps Minnesota healthcare facilities go green

August 18, 2008—VYCON, the designer and manufacturer of environmentally friendly, high-speed energy storage flywheel systems, has announced that it is working with Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in commitments to going green. The hospitals are replacing the lead acid batteries used for backup power in their data centers with VYCON’s VDC flywheel backup system. The VYCON flywheel UPS system has been in operation since April of this year with excellent results, according to the company.

Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota are taking a leadership role within the United States by replacing the hospital’s traditional battery backup system with an environmentally safe flywheel system. The flywheel does not contain any chemicals and does not present a disposal hazard. Moreover, the VYCON flywheel backup system takes up significantly less space than battery solutions.

The flywheel UPS is superior to batteries in that it is a highly reliable protection system in the event of a power failure, and it does not contain any toxic elements, explains VYCON.

VYCON describes its innovative VDC backup systems as environmentally friendly high-speed flywheels that provide clean ride-through back up power that is fast, predictable and seamless. The VDC units can replace traditional UPS batteries or work in tandem with batteries to provide instantaneous on demand power.
