What does it take to be qualified to fulfill FM positions? What are the requirements and skills that appear frequently in facility management job positions?

  • Strategic planning: Develop and implement strategies for managing the organization’s real estate portfolio and facilities, aligning with business objectives.
  • Sustainability and ESG leadership: Lead the adoption of sustainability and ESG best practices within real estate and facilities management. Includes promoting energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring compliance with green building standards. Develop strategies to align the organization’s real estate operations with its ESG objectives, including sustainability reporting. Oversee the implementation of environmental policies and the measurement of ESG performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience: Ten years plus construction and facilities management as well as experience stewarding major capital projects.  This person will be a highly organized and energetic individual with a deep knowledge of building systems, bidding and permitting processes, code compliance, and safety regulations.
  • Participation: In planning studies, programming efforts, facility utilization analyses, and space planning initiatives.
  • Conduct technical reviews: Of architectural designs, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Project management: Coordinate all readiness workstreams across both facilities; partner with the client on a staffing strategy to backfill existing engineering resources during transition, defining required FTEs and continuity plans.
  • Integration: Systematically integrate all-source intelligence, geotechnical data, topographical data, facility expertise, and facility design and maintenance principles to characterize heavy industrial facility missions and physical configurations.
  • Experience managing complex utility plants, distribution systems, and multi-building facility operations including maintenance and vendor oversight.
