November 17, 2003—The City of Chicago joined Community Energy, Inc., and local energy consumers recently to announce the availability of new, locally generated wind energy for Chicago-area businesses and residents.
Several area businesses and institutions said they would be purchasing wind energy from the ComEd-Community Energy Wind Farm at Crescent Ridge. This facility is one of the first Illinois-based wind energy facilities and is expected to be online next year.
With the exception of major utilities, the transaction will make Chicago the nation’s largest purchaser of wind power.
ComEd (Commonwealth Edison) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corp., one of the nation’s largest electric utilities.
