WoodWorks, RISA partner on adding wood to building design software

July 14, 2008—The Wood Products Council’s WoodWorks program has announced an agreement with RISA Technologies, leader in building design software. The venture will expand RISA’s software to incorporate wood design features, allowing greater flexibility in the selection of materials for non-residential buildings.

The software will incorporate code requirements, gravity design, diaphragm modeling/design, shear wall modeling, analysis and design, lateral force design, hybrid design and other features. The upgrade will be Building Information Modeling (BIM) compatible and will be released in two stages throughout 2008, beginning in August, says the Council.

For engineers with current licenses for RISA software, the new features will be received automatically as an upgrade.

WoodWorks, an initiative of the Wood Products Council, is a venture of the major wood associations in North America, research organizations and government agencies. For information, see the Web site.
