Wren to provide video surveillance for DC Housing Authority

November 24, 2006—Wren, a provider of video surveillance solutions, has announced the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) has selected Wren Network Video Solutions and Wren Video Management System (VMS) Software for security, risk management and operations applications in 20 housing complexes across the DC metropolitan area.

Considered to be among the most progressive housing authorities across the country, the DCHA Department of Development and Modernization is investing in the latest IP video technology to meet the challenging security needs of low income housing complexes.

Whereas traditional analog video is used largely by many housing authorities as a reactive tool, providing information only after an incident has occurred, network video technology will enable DCHA to proactively use video, which is now easy to access, distribute and organize on their existing IT networks. The agency plans on leveraging video for security as well as risk management and operational purposes, making this widespread deployment one of the first of its kind.

DCHA will use Wren’s surveillance solutions, combined with high performance workstations from DakTech, a national computer manufacturer based in Fargo, North Dakota, and other software, to monitor capital assets such as HVAC equipment, water heaters and other mechanical systems. This complete solution provides video that is linked to critical equipment, including fire alarms and access control systems.

Using Wren VMS Software, an enterprise-grade application that enables easy capture, review and management of video, facility managers can pull up a browser displaying live video from a designated camera. Wren cameras’ motion detection capabilities will automatically capture video when motion has been detected, enabling personnel to better monitor low traffic areas. Because the technology is deployed across the enterprise network, monitoring can be performed on-location as well as remotely, 24/7.

Wren, a provider of video surveillance solutions for more than 20 years, gives organizations the power to improve security, reduce risk and streamline operations. For more information, see the Web site.
