XENERGY, an energy consulting, information technology and energy services firm headquartered in Burlington, Mass., recently released its annual Retail Energy Markets report on restructured electric markets. The report found that, despite energy woes on the West Coast, the number of customers able to choose a competitive electric supplier in the United States increased to more than 37 million—roughly 40 percent of all accounts—in 2000. However, only about 1 percent of these customers have chosen a new electric supplier to date.
