ActivMedia Robotics announces automated delivery vehicle for laboratories, medical and electronic facilities

October 21, 2002—ActivMedia Robotics recently announced the availability of PowerBot—a compact, laser-based, automated guided vehicle that specializes in navigating tight spaces such as laboratories or electronics assembly plants. The vehicle can be used for delivery, sensing, and surveillance.

PowerBot can navigate among moving obstacles to any mapped building destination without retrofitting. Unlike industrial vehicles pre-programmed for repetitive motion, it can autonomously calculate a best path and re-plan paths if it encounters obstacles. Its sensing detectors and sensitive bumpers enable the vehicle to avoid pre-defined permanent “forbidden areas.”

PowerBot can turn in place, carry up to a 200lb (100kg) payload at a maximum speed of 4.76mph (7.6kph), and operate on all floor and paved surfaces and ADA compliant 15-percent grade ramps.

Prices for PowerBot start at $25,000 and $11,000 for software with laser sensing. A compatible portable industrial arm and numerous sensors are available, as well as custom design, integration, and programming services. For more information, contact ActivMedia by e-mail.
