March 10, 2003—Ohio State University has adopted ITTIA’s RDMiT version 3.2 data access and distribution technology for embedded applications using Raima Database Manager (RDM).
Within the university of nearly 50,000 students and 14,000+ staff, instructors and support personnel, the task of managing access to facilities around the sprawling 1,700 acre campus fell to the Physical Facilities department. To manage the database of keys and access codes, the department turned to Keystone 600 from Best Access Systems.
As requirements and needs grew, supporting the use of customized reporting, analysis and data management with this database became a critical need. The university required system support for the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) standard. Maintaining system up-time to safeguard the integrity of security features was another key concern.
Two possible solutions were considered. Ohio State could undertake a complex deployment of a new product that provided needed capabilities, then migrate the data from its old system to the new one; or it could attempt to build a new application from the ground up. But upon examination, both alternatives presented excessive costs and unacceptable system disruption.
But Ohio State discovered a third option—gaining ODBC access through ITTIA’s RDMi data access and management software. RDMi offered the benefit of leaving Ohio State’s key and access code database intact and operating, while adding seamless ODBC access to the embedded data store. What’s more, ITTIA offered a supported evaluation of its proven RDMi ODBC driver technology.
ITTIA provides data connectivity solutions for industry leading applications developed for embedded and mobile platforms. The company’s RDMiT technology provides easy access for customers to migrate and report data. With RDMiT, data can be accessed and utilized via applications such as Microsoft Access, Excel, Crystal Reports, Cognos and other ODBC compatible tools. For more information, contact ITTIA.
