EnergyWindow retrofits restaurant chain; projected payback 1-2 years

August 3, 2001—EnergyWindow, Inc., has successfully completed an energy strategy program for a national restaurant chain with 700 restaurants in 28 states.

The project team identified 6-9 retrofits that will reduce energy use by $3,000-11,000 annually for each restaurant and pay back initial investments in 1-2 years, depending on state energy costs. The retrofits include heating and air conditioning modifications, lighting retrofits, as well as such simple measures as timers, photocells, and dimmers to reduce loads during periods of low use or restaurant closure. The team also identified supply cost saving opportunities in each of several state energy markets of several hundred thousand dollars by either soliciting bids from alternative suppliers or switching to alternative rates.

EnergyWindow also facilitated a review of the company’s business strategy, performance measures, management practices, and the current energy environment. EnergyWindow then built a detailed schedule for the second phase of the project and designed concepts for energy management processes and information systems.
