September 2023

Sep 26 - Sep 27 Detroit, MI, US DLC Controls Summit 2023: Unlocking the Potential of Networked Lighting Controls DesignLights Consortium (DLC)

DLC Controls Summit '23DesignLights Consortium’s (DLC) two-day Controls Summit, “Unlocking the Potential of Networked Lighting Controls” is an opportunity for utility executives, energy efficiency specialists, lighting controls manufacturers and installers, decarbonization advocates and other industry professionals to collaborate on ways to break down market barriers and speed wider adoption of networked lighting controls (NLC). Although research shows that NLCs can increase energy savings of commercial lighting projects by an average 49 percent beyond LED savings alone, various challenges have kept market penetration of NLCs at less than one percent. Hurdles to greater adoption of lighting controls include lack of education and sales training, inadequate incentives, and low device interoperability. Considering connected lighting’s potential for enabling greater savings, demand controls, and a grid-enabled future, the DLC Controls Summit will gather professionals who design, promote, install, and incentivize lighting controls for networking, education and collaboration on ways to get NLCs into more commercial buildings of all sizes. Early Bird rate through September 5. Space is limited.

Oct 25 - Oct 27 Washington, DC, US ASHRAE Decarbonization Conference for the Built Environment 2023 ASHRAE; AIA; IFMA; APPA; BOMA

Decarbonization Conference for the Built Environment 2023Organized by leading building industry organizations, this conference’s goal is to bring persons who work in all aspects of building design, construction, operation, ownership and management into the same room to address how the building industry as a whole can decrease carbon emissions, both embodied and operational, in order to reduce the impact of buildings on the climate crisis. Since building design, construction and operation contribute close to 40% of total global emissions of carbon, the groups say it is imperative that we all work together to develop a path forward to address buildings’ impact. The conference program will address current and future governmental policies and regulations that engineers, architects, owners and operators need to be aware of to address environmentally responsible building requirements. The three-day event includes 23 seminars, 17 panels and three keynote sessions, including a roundtable of industry executives. Keynote speakers are climate change, cleantech and sustainability expert Chris Turner and Sue Hall, chief executive officer of Climate Neutral Business Network.

Oct 28 - Oct 30 Denver, CO, US CoreNet Global Summit 2023 North America — Denver [corporate real estate] CoreNet Global

CoreNet Global Summit NA - Denver 2023Themed “Zoom Out: The Power of Perspective” for 2023, the CoreNet Global Summit convenes corporate real estate (CRE) professionals from across North America to advance skills, connect with peers, be recognized for achievements and learn about the latest innovations that are reshaping the way we live and work.

From the CoreNet Global Summit NA site: “We have been conditioned throughout our lives to produce THE answer – a single, definitive answer to a question or problem. However, complex challenges rarely come with a singular, simple solution. While uncertainty can be seen as a threat or risk, embracing the discomfort is the new norm and we must lean into it as an expected part of the leadership process. A leader’s ability to navigate change, disruption, and uncertainty is paramount in a world that has become increasingly turbulent and volatile.

Today’s issues have many interdependent elements that change in unpredictable ways and lead to unforeseen outcomes. While it can be tempting to break a challenge into various components to ‘solve,’ this assumes that one has greater control over the problem at hand. It can also narrow your view and obscure your perspective. ‘Zooming out’ can help leaders shine a light on assumptions that may not be visible from the trenches. An elevated vantage point can enable a view of larger patterns and inter-dependencies leading to adaptation, re-calibration, and new solutions. ‘Zooming out’ can equip corporate real estate professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to emerge as thoughtful leaders who may not have a single answer but know how to ask the right questions.”
