April 15, 2002—BuildingGreen, Inc., publisher of Environmental Building News, has just released an updated and expanded version of the EBN Archives CD-ROM, a compendium of all 77 back issues of their newsletter on environmentally responsible design and construction. Packed with more than 1,350 pages of green building information, the Archives are fully searchable and provide instant access to every article, diagram, and photo, exactly as they appeared in print–from the very first issue in 1992 through the end of 2001.

A new feature of the EBN Archives makes it easy to find articles that relate to credits offered under the US Green Building Council’s LEED green building rating system. A designer researching Site Credit 6 on stormwater management, for example, can click on that credit in the LEED directory and get immediate links to articles on stormwater.

The CD also features links from more than 450 product reviews to an online database of constantly updated manufacturer contact information. Users can search for information either by the built-in Adobe Acrobat text search function or by a cumulative index with over 11,000 entries, each of which links directly to an article.

Contents include in-depth feature articles on a wide range of topics related to sustainable building—from renewable energy and recycled-content materials to land-use planning and indoor air quality. The CD includes practical information such as checklists with tips and suggestions, case studies that show how designers and builders are successfully incorporating green building ideas into their work, and reviews of green building products, including comments on how they perform in the field.

The EBN Archives costs $149 ($95 for EBN subscribers), which BuildingGreen says is substantially less than the $750 a full set of back issues would cost. Upgrades from prior versions cost $79 ($37 for EBN subscribers). The CD is compatible with Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh.
