October 7, 2002—The Dow Chemical Company has recently introduced BIOBALANCE polymers for use in the carpet industry. The new soybean based technology replaces a portion of the system required to make polyurethane carpet backings, thereby reducing the dependency on petroleum-based products, while supporting the agricultural community.
According to Dow Chemical, BIOBALANCE polymers have been developed in response to market demand for a sustainable resource for the production of high performance backings.
Scott Lowrie, Business Manager for Dow’s Floor Coverings Business, said, “Our cushioned backings already contribute to the sustainability of flooring products by extending their service life. This new technology provides the carpet industry with a renewable resource alternative.”
BIOBALANCE polymers are now available in all polyurethane non-cushioned and cushioned backings manufactured by UTT.
