iPIX’s new 360-degree surveillance cameras protect critical infrastructure assets

July 30, 2003—Internet Pictures Corporation’s (iPIX) new 360VS r2000 digital video surveillance camera provides situational awareness of an entire environment in 360 degrees, seeing all activity in all directions with no blind spots. The 360VS r2000 is a network-enabled camera, with iPIX software to deliver real-time video up to 15 frames per second, digitally monitoring a spherical area with no moving parts. This fixed-mount visual security solution integrates into new or existing security installations and requires no customization.

The 360VS technology was originally deployed in custom applications for government and defense. The r2000 is the first “off-the-shelf” product in the 360VS family and is designed for the protection of critical infrastructure such as water supplies, ports, borders, and nuclear facilities. The 360VS r2000 will be joined by other products in the near future that extend the perimeter of detection and add integrated identification through the use of optical pan/tilt/zoom cameras.

Each authorized person on a network can simultaneously monitor, navigate, and capture complete scenes with one motionless camera to gain a rapid view of the entire defensible area, says iPIX. Integrated motion detection provides intelligent alarm notification based on multiple user-defined detection areas with individual sensitivity settings. System administrators can receive alerts and e-mail notification of any event of interest within the spherical viewing area.
