MessageOne protects companies against email outages with emergency messaging system

October 17, 2003—Recent hurricanes, blackouts and computer virus have served as reminders to corporations of the importance of email service protection provided by vendors such as MessageOne, who recently announced Version 3.0 of its Emergency Messaging System (EMS).

Among the new enhancements to EMS 3.0 include: built-in emergency employee notification capabilities, guaranteed RIM BlackBerry and other wireless device forwarding support, and service for Lotus Notes—complementing the existing service for Microsoft Exchange.

MessageOne’s EMS ensures uninterrupted email service in the event of an outage, and can be activated in less than 30 seconds at a customer’s request. By 2005, an estimated 16 billion business messages will be sent daily in the United States. In addition, a 2003 survey by Meta Group revealed that 80 percent of corporate email users rate email as far more valuable than the telephone for communications.

With EMS3.0, an emergency employee notification capability is now built-in to allow organizations to quickly respond to crises or disasters. EMS3.0 allows automatic broadcast of emergency alerts and notifications to employees. EMS3.0 also automatically collects and updates emergency contact information—from existing data sources or through end-user employee self-administration. In addition, the service has been extended to provide built-in support for RIM BlackBerry, guaranteeing the continuity of corporate email for the growing number of enterprise RIM Blackberries.

EMS3.0 now provides full sync and recovery support for Lotus Notes R5 and R6 running on both Windows and Linux platforms. In addition, EMS3.0 has streaming recovery to allow for even faster email recovery and offers enhanced functionality for distribution list synchronization, distributed sync management and custom drop box handling.

EMS Version 3.0 is available directly from MessageOne for an annual fee, starting at $14,000 per year for enterprises up to 1000 seats. For larger organizations, the pricing scales lower, on a per seat basis, to as low as 50 cents per mailbox, per month (or $6.00 per year). All contracts include installation, unlimited testing and two activations.
