MASS Systems launches FM Desktop

March 29, 2004—A new software solution is being launched in the UK to address the needs of facilities managers in small to medium-sized enterprises.

FM Desktop is a Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, made up of a suite of scalable products that use the industry standard components, AutoCAD, Microsoft Access and SQL, to help manage facilities drawings, data, assets and occupants, graphically.

FM Desktop will be distributed in the UK by IT solutions specialist, MASS Systems, which has created a new business unit for the purpose as part of its restructuring and growth plans.

Designed to address the four major functions of facility management: Space and Asset Management, Project Management, Emergency Management and Maintenance Management, FM Desktop comprises four modular components that allow organizations to deploy an FM solution that suits their specific facilities management needs and budget.

At the core of the suite is Facility Manager, which provides users with the ability to manage all facilities drawings and data in an easy to use database environment. As an integrated facilities management tool, it offers the ability to query, pan, zoom, print and share facilities drawings and data without the need for complicated CAD software or any special CAD skills.

Facility Link connects objects in the facilities drawings to records in the FM Desktop database, providing a graphical link to the facilities data. Facility Web provides a web-based interface to all facilities data and drawings, delivering information visually to users through the Internet or company intranet. Facility Mobile enables high performance viewing of digital facilities data and drawings on a handheld computer and streamlines the exchange of data between the office and field.

FM Desktop may be installed on a single, stand alone PC, deployed as an enterprise solution across the organizations corporate network, or deployed on the Internet.
