February 2, 2007—The Planet, which calls itself the world’s largest privately held dedicated hosting company, has launched a new managed services plan backed by a 100 percent uptime service-level agreement ( SLA ) for managed services customers.
The company says it has redefined its monthly IT infrastructure offerings with a three-tiered service model, each with network-bases security and around-the-clock technical support.
The company reports that its data centers are linked by one of the world’s fastest, most reliable networks, featuring a 100 Gbps network. The three service levels include around-the-clock, 365-days-per-year monitoring by two fully redundant network operations centers (NOC) located in Houston and Dallas. The Planet secures its data centers and systems with state-of-the-art physical and electronic security. Protection against malicious behavior includes two-factor authentication, anti-virus security, intrusion prevention and detection, and managed firewalls.
The company adds that it serves more than 22,000 customers and hosts more than 2.8 million Web sites. One of Dell’s largest-volume customers, The Planet owns and operates six geographically dispersed data centers that house more than 40,000 servers.
