EPA releases draft Energy Star specs for efficient servers

February 29, 2008—The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released a draft Energy Star standard for computer servers and invited feedback on the proposed criteria for products and testing procedures.

The draft document addresses requirements in such areas as power supply efficiency, idle power, power and temperature measurement, and power management and virtualization, although many of the specific requirements remain “TBD” awaiting feedback.
